The International Greenhouse Gas Conference (IGC), hosted annually by the Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Research Center of Korea (GIR), aims to facilitate the achievement of the Paris Agreement's goals and optimize decision-making processes for more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
In previous years, IGC initiated discussions on the 2023 Global Stocktake (GST) and collaboratively reviewed the efforts of each country to achieve their NDC targets by 2030.
This year's event will center on pathways to NDCs 3.0, scheduled to be submitted by early 2025. International and domestic experts are invited to discuss the process of establishing new NDCs, with a focus on national institutional arrangements and expert climate research. This discussion will cover key procedures, ranging from technical groundwork and projection models to stakeholder consultations and final decision- making. We will also discuss key emission reduction strategies and the political contexts shaping countries' new climate commitments. These dialogues will lead to the sharing of effective methodologies and best practices for formulating robust and achievable NDCs 3.0 that catalyze transformative climate action.
By examining each country's specific climate politics, the IGC will facilitate a better understanding of the effective procedures for formulating NDCs for the new climate decade. This conference will provide a platform for countries to engage with diverse national experts and learn from each other's experiences. Additionally, there will also be opportunities for knowledge sharing, networking and forming international cooperative initiatives.
